Following Wednesday’s threat of litigation by Nigerian rapper Falz against Verydarkman, a development has emerged stemming from accusations that Falz and his father, Femi Falana, were involved in a voice recording linked to a contentious bribery scandal involving Bobrisky and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Counsel for VeryDarkMan, Deji Adeyanju, has issued a statement regarding the matter, emphasizing that VeryDarkMan merely contested the accuracy of Bobrisky’s assertions in the leaked recording, with no intention of defaming Femi Falana.
The following statement was issued: “We are legal representatives of Mr. Martins Vicent Otse, herein referred to as our client, and are acting on his behalf. Our client has received your correspondence dated September 25, 2024, regarding the subject matter, specifically your request to retract his Instagram post containing an audio recording between Mr. Okuneye Idris Olarenwaju (Bobrisky) and another individual.
Our client rejects the defamation allegations regarding Mr. Femi Falana, SAN, a respected Senior Advocate of Nigeria and globally acknowledged human rights activist, and posits that the publication’s purpose was to encourage a thorough probe by relevant agencies and your client into the extensive allegations raised by Mr. Okuneye in the voice recording, as partially substantiated by Mr. Folarin Falana’s solicitor’s letter dated 25 September 2024.
VeryDarkMan’s legal representative emphasized that the investigation’s primary focus should be on the claims Bobrisky allegedly made against certain EFCC officers, rather than litigating defamation.
Our client greatly admires Mr. Femi Falana, SAN, for his unwavering commitment to human rights and the rule of law in Nigeria. In light of this, our client considers an interagency investigation into the voice recording’s allegations to be the most judicious approach, rather than pursuing defamation, as articulated by Mr. Adeyanju.
Mr. Adeyanju advised Falz, via Facebook, to engage with Bobrisky directly, considering their previous exchange. ‘Falz should discuss the issues with Bob, having already confirmed their phone call. This settles the discussion.
