Bobrisky, VeryDarkMan: Reps Probe Bribery Allegations Against EFCC, NCS
The House of Representatives is conducting an inquiry into alleged bribery within the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS).
According to social media influencer Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, allegations have surfaced claiming the EFCC dismissed money laundering charges against Idris Okuneye, aka Bobrisky, following a purported N15 million payment.
At Thursday’s plenary session, Rep Patrick Umoh, representing Ikot Ekpene/Essien Udim/Obot Akara Federal Constituency in Akwa Ibom State, moved a motion expressing grave concerns over the damaging allegations.
He drew attention to Nigeria’s corrupt image and advocated for prompt action to address this issue.
While speaking to colleagues, Umoh highlighted his worries about the defamatory publication by VeryDarkMan that was widely circulated, attacking the EFCC and the NCS.
The publication claims that the EFCC dismissed money laundering charges against Idris Okuneye, aka Bobrisky, upon receiving a sum of N15,000,000.
According to the publication, Idris Okuneye’s conviction for Naira abuse and defacement surprisingly did not lead to serving his sentence within the Nigeria Correctional Service, with sources suggesting alternative accommodations were arranged.
This honorable chamber is troubled by the grave accusations against Nigeria’s vital law enforcement agencies, the EFCC and the NCS, which were established to combat crime and implement corrective incarceration, accordingly.
Furthermore, he emphasized that the detrimental depiction and portrayal of Nigeria as a corrupt nation in the publication warrants attention and should not be disregarded.
Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, presiding over the plenary, referred the issue to the Committees on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Institutions for consideration.
The Committees on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Institutions will conduct the investigation, providing a detailed report within three weeks of legislative sessions.
