Suspended Officer Trying To Mislead Nigerians – NCoS

Posted by

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has verified the suspension of two high-ranking officers due to the Bobrisky saga involving Idris Okuneye, clarifying that a viral video from one of the suspended officers was designed to deceive the public.

Michael Anugwa, Deputy Controller of NCoS, issued a public denial on Monday, via a viral video, regarding his purported suspension from the service.

Following an audio leak, the Federal Government suspended the officers in charge of Kirikiri’s Maximum and Minimum Custodial Centres in Lagos State, after it emerged that Bobrisky, who received a six-month jail sentence, was given an apartment outside the centre.

The spokesman of the NCoS, Umar Abubakar, in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday, said the suspension letters were issued and conveyed to the affected officers.

“The attention of the Nigerian Correctional Service has been drawn to a trending video of one of its senior officers purporting that the Service has not served him a letter of suspension as earlier directed by the Civil Defence, Correctional Fire, and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB).

The Service considers this behavior a severe breach of professional standards, intentionally designed to mislead the public regarding the matter at hand,” the statement read in part.

He revealed that the officer appearing in the video was not alone in facing suspension, as three more officers were suspended for alleged involvement in diverse misconducts, paving the way for further inquiry.

The suspended officers are the officer-in-charge of the Maximum Security Custodial Centre, Kirikiri, Lagos, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) Sikiru Adekunle; the officer-in-charge of the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kirikiri, Lagos, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) Michael Anugwa; the officer-in-charge of the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje, FCT command, DCC Kevin Ikechukwu Iloafonsi; and Assistant Superintendent of Corrections (ASC II) Ogbule Samuel Obinna of the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Abakiliki, Ebonyi state.

The CDCFIB issued two formal letters, reference numbers CDCFIB/NCOS/DISP/016/VOL.II/16 and CDCFIB/NCOS/DISP/016/VOL.II/17, on 26th September, 2024, effecting the suspension of the mentioned officers.

As of September 26, 2024, the suspension took effect, and the respective officers were duly informed,” he noted. He reassured the public that the Service would conduct a thorough probe and that anyone found guilty would be penalized as per the Public Service Rules and existing legislation.
