Nigerian Coalition Condemns Representative Ikwechegh For Assaulting Bolt Driver

On Monday, Secretary General Olufemi Adegbulugbe issued a statement on behalf of the group, condemning the incident and characterizing Ikwechegh’s actions as unacceptable and shameful.

The Federalist Majority, representing patriotic Nigerians from diverse religious, political, and ethnic backgrounds, vigorously condemns Mr. Alex Mascot Ikwechegh’s unprovoked verbal and physical aggression towards Mr. Stephen Abuwayseya, a Nigerian Bolt driver.

In a statement released on Monday by Secretary General Olufemi Adegbulugbe, the group condemned the incident, describing Ikwechegh’s behaviour as unacceptable and shameful.

The statement indicated that such actions sullied the reputation of both the constituents he represents and the National Assembly in its entirety.

Mr. Ikwechegh, a member of the House of Representatives for Aba North & South Federal Constituency and an indigene of Igbere, Bende LGA of Abia State, has faced widespread criticism for his actions, deemed emblematic of power abuse by public officials.

The Federalist Majority reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Nigerians from intimidation and harassment, regardless of profession or social status, emphasizing that public service requires humility, respect, and civility.

The organisation called for accountability among public office holders, urging them to uphold the dignity of their positions and serve as role models for citizens.
The statement read, “We call on the relevant authorities to conduct the needful investigation and application of the rule of Law.

“Section 355 and 327 of the criminal code act is very clear on the criminal acts of unlawful assault and threat to kill or cause bodily harm.

“Federal Majority wish to use this opportunity to express deep concern about the increasing incidents of harassment and intimidation of Nigerians by some members of the National Assembly and public office holders.”

Adegbulugbe explained that the case of Mr Chikwendu Kalu, member representing Isiala Ngwa South and former speaker of Abia House of Assembly, who assaulted a FRSC officer for demanding that his wife put on her car seat belt, readily comes to mind.

“We also recall the case of Senator Elisha Agbo, representing Adamawa North, who recklessly assaulted a Nigerian in a porn shop in the Wuse Area of Abuja.”

He said the fatal shooting of a newspaper vendor, Mr Ifeanyichukwu Okereke by a security aide of  former Speaker of House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, “remains very fresh in our memories.”

“We urge and appeal to our lawmakers and all public officers to treat Nigerians with the respect and dignity they are entitled to,” Adegbulugbe added.
