VeryDarkMan Apologises For Using Police Uniform

Posted by

Martins Otse, aka VeryDarkMan, a prominent social media figure, has offered a formal apology to the Nigeria Police Force following the widespread dissemination of a video depicting him wearing a police-inspired costume and claiming the title ‘CSP of the Online Division.’

On Wednesday, VeryDarkMan took to Instagram to share a video and statement, revealing his encounter with law enforcement, who questioned him about the video in question.

He stated that the experience had taught him some lessons.

He said, “I learned a few things. We learn every day. I made my video and said CSP. What I meant was Chief Social Media Person; however, the Nigeria Police has a rank called Chief Superintendent of Police. They also pointed out that the uniform I was wearing is similar to that of the Nigerian Police.”

VeryDarkMan clarified that he had no intention of impersonating the police as he apologised to the Nigeria Police Force and the office of the Inspector General of Police.

“I didn’t intend to impersonate the police in any way, and I tender my unreserved apologies to the Nigeria Police Force and the office of the Inspector General of Police,” he said.

He also advised the public to seek permission from law enforcement agencies before using any attire resembling their uniforms.
He added, “I would like to use this opportunity to urge the general public to always seek permission from the police or other law enforcement agencies before using anything that might resemble their uniform.
“You might want to use it for good, but others may have bad intentions. So, it’s best to get full approval before using anything that could appear to be impersonating.”
Nigeria Police Force condemned the unauthorised use of its official uniform by VeryDarkMan in a recent video.
In the viral video posted on his social media platforms, he was seen wearing a police uniform and introducing himself as CSP VeryDarkMan, Nigeria’s “number one online police officer.”
The online activist proclaimed in the video that his mission is to rid the social media space of harmful influences by harnessing his platform to counteract oppressive online vendors.
He stated that, unlike regular police who are required to follow due process, he would promptly expose offenders brought before him, given that evidence is presented.
